Independent reading selection
Journaling- 15-20 entries that span the entire book. Due on the last day before Christmas Break!
Tips and Hints:
Make it a habit! Give yourself 30 minutes a day!
Don't wait until the end to journal! Do entries every day as you read!
Use post-it notes or the highlighting feature on e-books to mark passages you want to journal. Do the entries that day so you can remember what you planned to say!
Use a variety of LOT #s! Make sure you have some of each!
This Week's Focus... Analysis Prompt
We will be writing the following essay in class on Monday:
In his second volume of memoirs, Ways of Escape (1980), Graham Green observed the following:"Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, compose or paint can manage to escape the madness, melancholia, the panic fear which is inherent in the human situation.”
How can writers use memoirs as therapy to deal with the human situation and to reflect on larger issues/ideas? In addition to your own independent reading, use specific evidence from at least two different memoirs read in class.
Group Work
Work on the graphic organizer to pull text evidence and commentary from 4 texts.
